It was rainy today when I got home from work and the last thing I wanted to do was stay inside all night. When I got in the house I could just tell it had been one of those days.
Toys were spread throughout the house like a tornado had come through. The boys were bickering, and mama was looking exhausted from a late night and a long day trapped in the house. I had to think quickly or risk getting sucked into the force field of grumpy attitudes that awaited me today.
I decided on this dreary day that I would give LuLu a break for a few hours and take the boys to the local Home Depot. James has been saving his dollars in his new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle wallet to buy himself a tool, and I can always get lost in the tool isle. So we get packed into the truck and make our way into town.
On our way there, we hit one of those after winter pot holes and instantly I can tell something bad had happened. We pull over to see that our tire was ruined! Needless to say, I was extremely unhappy. It was raining, I have both boys with me, and now I have to change my tire. Long story short….. my spare was flat too!
Now what? I decided to call LuLu and have her come get the boys and while I waited on her I called a towing service. I’m angry about the situation, the boys are angry because we are stranded and all we can do is wait. Little did I know, the evening was actually about to get better.
I have to give major props to the local towing company that came to our rescue (www.towingcantoncars.com). Thanks fellas’ for making the experience enjoyable. To my surprise, when the tow truck showed up, the boys couldn’t have been any more excited! The rain had slowed down to a light drizzle, so the boys got to get out of the truck and “help” the driver winch our truck up on the flat bed.
The look on their faces were priceless. LuLu arrived just after the tow truck so we took pictures of the boys as they all of the sudden became tow truck experts. They giggled and laughed as they pushed buttons and levers, like they were actually doing the job all by theirselves. The driver couldn’t have been any more friendly to let them interfere with his every move. To top it off, he let me and the boys ride in his truck to go to the tire shop. As angry as I was to be broken down on the side of the road, it was almost worth it to see the joy that it brought to James and Thomas. They were happier riding in that tow truck than what I would have been if someone had given me a million dollars.
Talk about finding a positive in a bad situation. I would have never guessed that having a flat tire on the side of the road with two little boys would be one of the best nights we have had together. But seriously boys, don’t expect me to do this again just so you can get some enjoyment out of it. Let’s find other ways to have some fun!
